With a business baseline focused on the impact of embedded systems in the years ahead, the book investigates the SPD requirements raised from existing and future IoT and M2M systems. On this baseline, it proposes a new approach to embedded systems SPD, the SHIELD philosophy, that relies on an overlay approach to SPD, on a methodology for composable SPD, on the use of semantics, and on the design of embedded system with built-in SPD. This solution fulfills the security, privacy, and dependability requirements of the IoT and M2M challenging scenarios and demonstrates a great potential impact on the SPD market of cyber-physical systems. The book explores new grounds and illustrates the development of approximately forty prototypes capable of managing and enhancing SPD, including secure boot, trusted execution environments, adaptable radio interfaces, and different implementations of the middleware for measuring and composing SPD. Furthermore, it presents results obtained by applying the methodology in four business areas: surveillance, railway, avionics, and social mobility. Additionally, the book includes case studies on Ansaldo STS, EUROTECH, Leonardo Company.

作者簡介

Andrea Fiaschetti is Honorary Fellow (Cultore della Materia) at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in the Department of Computer, Control and Management Engineering "A. Ruberti", promoting research and teaching activities in the field of Automatic Control. He is/has been a teaching assistant in several courses within the Control Engineering, System Engineering, and Computer Science degrees, as well as supervisor of dozens of B.Sc./M.Sc. thesis on innovative topics. Since 2007, he has been actively involved in several European projects, mainly in the Security domain, including, but not limited to: SatSix, MICIE, MONET, and TASS, as well as pSHIELD and nSHIELD (on which this book is based). His main research interests are in the field of applied Automatic Control, pursuing a cross-fertilization between Control Theory and Computer Science, with particular focus on innovative solutions for Security and Manufacturing relevant topics; in this perspective, his major achievement is the formalisation of the so called "Composable Security Theory", an innovative methodology, born within a collaboration with a restricted pool of academic and industrial experts, that represents the foundation of the SHIELD roadmap. He is an author of several papers on this topic. On an industrial perspective, Dr. Fiaschetti is a certified Project Management Professional (PMPR) and works as Engineer at Thales Alenia Space Italia S.p.A. (a Thales/Finmeccanica company), in the field of Military Ground Segment. In addition, he is the cofounder and Vice-President of the "Complex Systems Engineering Committee" within the Engineers Association of Rome.

Josef Noll is Head of Research at Movation, Norway's open innovation company for mobile services. He is also a professor at the University of Oslo in the area of Wireless Networks and Security. His main working areas include mobile-based trust and authentication, personalized and context-aware service provisioning, and measurable security for the Internet of Things (IoT). In SHIELD, he has addressed the business opportunities through measurable security, privacy, and dependability, which have been adopted by several companies to extend their business. He is a co-founder and steering board member of the Center for Wireless Innovation Norway and the Basic Internet Foundation. Previously, he was head of the "Mobility and Personal Communications group" in Telenor R&D developing the UMTS (3G) standard, was staff member at the European Space Agency (ESA ESTEC). He received his PhD in 1993 from the University of Bochum, and he has published over 20 journal and book contributions, in addition to his contributions to conferences.

Paolo Azzoni is Research Program Manager at Eurotech Group (FinMeccanica). He is responsible for the industrial research projects, and his main working areas include machine-to machine (M2M) distributed systems, device to cloud architectures and solutions, semantic M2M, and Internet of Things (IoT). He is one of the founders of SHIELD and, in this context, he addressed the security, privacy, and dependability issues in embedded systems, with particular interest to the SHIELD industrial exploitation in security and surveillance. Previously, he was involved in academic research and teaching activities in the areas of formal verification, hw/sw co-design, and co-simulation for embedded systems and microprocessors. In 2006, he joined ETHLab (Eurotech Research Center) as Research Project Manager, and he has been responsible for the research projects in the area of embedded systems. He holds a Master Degree in Computer Science and a second Master Degree in Artificial Intelligence both from the University of Verona. He has been awarded patents and contributed to journals and conferences.

Roberto Uribeetxeberria is currently the Head of Research of the Faculty of Engineering at Mondragon University. He has participated in several European projects in the cyber-physical systems domain (eDIANA, pSHIELD, nSHIELD, ARROWHEAD, CITYFIED, DEWI). He is also the leader of MANTIS, a European project under the ECSEL-JU, the Joint Technology Initiative on "Electronic Components and Systems for European Leadership." Dr. Uribeetxeberria has participated in 35+ public funded research projects and authored 30+ publications. He has supervised two PhD theses, and he is currently supervising other two PhD students. Dr. Uribeetxeberria obtained his PhD in Mobile Communications at Staffordshire University (UK) in 2001. Since then, he has combined lecturing and research at Mondragon University. His research interests are in the fields of networking, information and network security, embedded system security, and data mining. He has represented Mondragon University in the ARTEMIS Industrial Association since 2007, and he is currently a member of the Steering Board of Artemis-IA, representing chamber B. He was also appointed to the Presidium by the Steering Board, and thus he has been Vice-President of ARTEMIS-IA since March 2014.
