This accessible study explores the role of playwright, actor, and director Charles Ludlam (founder of the Ridiculous Theatrical Company) in the creation of the Ridiculous style of theater in New York City in the 1960s. The book combines performer interviews, archival research, and performance ethnography. In making connections with queer experimental theater, the book introduces the concept of queer legacy as a larger framework to understand the connection between non-normative or queer sexualities, resultant cultural products, and their continuance. Much of the book is devoted to the careers and impact of neo-Ridiculous artists Charles Busch, Bradford Louryk, and Taylor Mac. B&w photos of performances are included.
