John Allcock is a longtime student of Jack Kornfield, Gil Fronsdal, Thich Nhat Hanh and other well-known meditation teachers. He is a regular practitioner at mindfulness retreats at Spirit Rock meditation center, where Jack Kornfield and Sylvia Boorstein teach and Thich Nhat Hanh’s Plum Village. John holds degrees from Boston College (in Philosophy and Political Science) and Harvard Law School. He works as a trial lawyer at DLA Piper, one of the largest law firms in the world. He is also the Global Co-Chair of Piper’s Intellectual Property Group and serves on the firm’s Executive Committee. John is on the Board of Directors of Arch Academy, (founded by his wife Cheryl) a mindfulness-based school for challenged students, and has been a principal architect of a mindful curriculum there. John lives in San Diego, where he maintains a very active lifestyle that includes daily yoga and meditation, frequent hikes, regular workouts, ocean swimming and time spent simply breathing and being. He is the father of three grown daughters.
