Comparative Blended Learning Practices and Environments

The 18 papers in this collection describe blended learning practices for combining face-to-face and online approaches to instruction, and report the benefits of using technology to connect learners from diverse backgrounds and countries so as to enrich their learning experiences. Case studies analyze online discussions from a knowledge portal supporting post-graduate engineering courses, try out virtual presentations as an alternative means of assessment for student teachers, and document an after-school program for at-risk youth mediated by a 3D virtual learning environment. Other topics include blended open distance education in South Africa, the demographics of students enrolled in online and hybrid MBA courses, the efficacy of security awareness programs, and a comparison of IT versus non-IT academics' perceptions of blended learning.
