商品簡介
This color-illustrated work stems from an international guest lectures series at the Institute of Art History at the University Zurich in 2011; other papers have also been included. The book's international contributors include scholars in photography, architecture, art history, media studies, and Islamic cultures. They shed light on current scholarship on local photography in the Near and Middle East in the 19th century, a region encompassing the Ottoman Empire, Arab provinces, Egypt, and Qajar Iran. Coverage spans from the period of the daguerreotype in 1839 to about 1920. Some topics examined are early photography of the holy sites of Islam, early photographs of Istanbul, the work of Iranian photographer Antoin Sevruguin, and portrait photography of Ottoman insurgents in the Balkans. The book contains a wealth of b&w and color historical and contemporary photos and art, making it appealing to general readers and students as well as scholars.
