商品簡介
This book brings together 36 case studies illustrating the role of communication in patient safety in nursing. It details basic principles and challenges related to health care quality, patient safety, and interpersonal communication, translating principles of human communication science for patient safety and quality of care, as well as discussing the Hannawa SACCIA (sufficiency, accuracy, clarity, contextualization, and interpersonal adaptation) typology of core competencies for safe communication in healthcare and lessons learned from communication science. The cases follow the timeline of nursing practice--data collection, assessment/diagnosis, planning, active waiting, implementation, and evaluation--and involve different levels of interpersonal communication: patient-provider and provider-family, clinical teams and inter-professional encounters, and cross-professional and inter-institutional interactions. The cases relate to medication, handoffs and handovers, timeliness of treatment and diagnosis, postoperative monitoring, resuscitation and intubation, discharge, surgery, and patient falls, outlining interdisciplinary and evidence-based perspectives on communication processes that contribute to close calls and adverse events and applying principles from communication science and strategies from the Hannawa SACCIA. Each case is followed by a diagnostic section listing and labeling communication errors, as well as additional comments. Annotation ©2018 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
