Knowledge and Global Power ― Making New Sciences in the South

Knowledge and Global Power is a ground-breaking international study which examines how knowledge is produced, distributed and validated globally. The authors use interviews, databases, and fieldwork to show how intellectual workers respond in Brazil, South Africa, and Australia. The study focuses on socially and politically important research fields: HIV/AIDS, climate change, and gender studies. Fran Collyer is Associate Professor at the University of Sydney. Raewyn Connell is Professor Emerita at the University of Sydney and is one of Australia’s leading social scientists. João Maia teaches in the School of Social Sciences (CPDOC) at Fundação Getulio Vargas, Rio de Janeiro. Robert Morrell is an historian working in research development at the University of Cape Town.
