《通用學術英語詞匯教程/通用學術英語系列》共10個單元，每個單元的文章控制在1?000到2?000詞之間，均選自英美主流期刊和網站，文章難度循序漸進。話題生動有趣，文理兼顧，例如人類進化、望遠鏡、意志力、虛榮心等。每個單元結構安排如下：
Understanding the text 注重文章理解，通過大學英語四、六級考試的題型考查學生的閱讀理解。同時，通過上下文推測強化文章中重點詞匯的理解。
Target academic words 給出50個目標詞匯，讓學生在閱讀文章前對每個詞匯的掌握程度進行自我評估。評估測試出自Waring（2002），充分體現學生對詞匯不同程度的掌握（從辨認到產出）。
Match & Synonyms & Words with different meanings 設計不同的練習，幫助學生逐個學習和掌握目標詞匯的意思，並在此基礎上拓展同義詞，瞭解一詞多義。
Word families 主要拓展目標詞的詞族中的各種派生詞，在進一步擴大詞匯量的基礎上學會運用這些詞匯。例句練習均選自新英語主流期刊，例如BBC，The Guardian， The New York Times， The Washington Post等，保證學生瞭解詞匯在真實上下文中的用法。
Multiword units 提高學生對地道的詞語搭配的關注，有意識地培養學生使用這些搭配。例句均選自新英語主流期刊，例如BBC，The Guardian，The New York Times，The Washington Post等，保證學生瞭解詞組的常見用法。
Can you recall the words? 幫助學生回憶本單元中的部分目標詞匯，並自己拼寫這些單詞。
Using affixes 參考Sasao和Webb（2017）根據英國國家語料庫編寫的高頻118個詞綴，刪除例詞沒有出現在AVL的詞綴，比如a-，ab-等，剩下的詞綴均使用AVL中的詞匯講解。
Using word roots 參考AVL詞表中的詞匯，同時根據詞根的產出性，每課篩選10個典型詞根進行理解和推演訓練。
《通用學術英語詞匯教程/通用學術英語系列》適合對象有三類：達到大學英語四級水平的大學生；高中國際班學生；非英語專業的研究生新生。
