This book deals with the fundamentals of various site investigation methods, including description of commonly used field tests, basic principles and other details of characterization of geomaterials based on laboratory tests, data analysis for estimating the design parameters, and preparation of site investigation report with technical recommendations. The book also covers the basic description of geomaterials (soils, rocks, waste materials such as coal ashes and mine tailings, etc.) in order to provide a continuity of knowledge from engineering geology, soil mechanics and rock mechanics. Case studies of best practice on site investigation will be included wherever possible.
