In Becoming, Michelle Obama gives us a glimpse into her childhood and her relationship with her parents, which definitely impacted the way she carried herself throughout her life and how she raised her two daughters. It tells of her ambitions, her desire to help make the world a better place (one clearly shared by her husband), the challenges of marriage and motherhood, and how she dealt with her husband's political ambitions. She talks of her desire to make an impact as First Lady while at the same time ensuring her daughters' lives were as "normal" as they could possibly be, and the successes, frustrations, and disappointments she experienced.I love the obvious reality way she shares her sentiments and encounters, uncovering feelings and fears and snapshots of outrage, just as the snapshots of sheer satisfaction, as mother, as spouse, as girl, and as First Lady. While she absolutely uncovers occurrences when she believed she wasn't dealt with decently by the media or by those discontent with her significant other (or her), this isn't a tell-all book. She is condemning of those that merit her contempt, however in any event, when she didn't agree with individuals, she didn't destroy them. Michelle says becoming isn't tied in with showing up some place or accomplishing a specific point. Rather she sees it as a forward movement, a method for advancing, an approach to reach consistently toward a superior self.
