It is the incredible true story of how a crew flew their Pan Am Boeing "Clipper" flying boat back home from the South Pacific to the United States after the Japanese had successfully attacked not only Pearl Harbour, but also Pan Am's own staging posts at Midway and Wake Islands completely blocking the normal route back.
At that point in history, the aircraft itself was literally worth its weight in gold as there were perhaps only around a dozen aircraft in the world with the range, carrying capability and reliability these Clippers offered.
Flying from Auckland, New Zealand via Australia, Indonesia, Ceylon, India, the Middle East, across Africa and the south Atlantic back into Pan Am's own route network eventually arriving at New York's La Guardia airport.
Their route home to the US takes them south through New Zealand and Australia, along the edge of the war in southern Asia, through the Mideast and then across Africa.
