This book is the author's walk down memory lane as well as his outlook on the future. Born in Shanghai, brought up in Hong Kong, he then worked as a haematologist in the UK for over 30 years. Patrick Chu has been shuttling between his present home in Liverpool, his workplace in Shenzhen, China, and his second home in Hong Kong for the last nine years.

Revisiting Hong Kong on a regular basis in the past decade has rekindled his deep feelings for this unique city, once a British colony and now a special administrative region of China, where the convergence of East and West has woven a rich tapestry of cultural contrasts in harmony.

As the world undergoes rapid changes on all fronts in recent years, Hong Kong is at the crossroads in its next stage of development. The way forward for this financial centre and trade hub of international acclaim, with all its advantages, shortfalls, opportunities and challenges, is somewhat uncertain.
