Any substance in the soil that exceeds its naturally-occurring levels and poses a risk to human health or the ecosystem is considered as a soil contaminant. Urban areas and industrial locations are the major zones of soil contamination. Pesticides, petroleum products, radon, asbestos, lead, chromated copper arsenate and creosote are some of the common contaminants in urban soils. Manufacturing, industrial dumping, land development, local waste disposal, and excessive pesticide or fertilizer use are some of the leading causes for soil contamination. This book contains some path-breaking studies in the field of soil contamination. While understanding the long-term perspectives of the topic, it makes an effort in highlighting its impact for the present and future society. This book is a vital tool for all researching and studying the issues and concerns related to soil contamination.
