The prototype 989 almost got there in 1988, but for strategic reasons Porsche did not start batch production. The design of this fourth series is similar to the Porsche Cayenne - and it's no coincidence. The Cayenne was the first serial Porsche with more than two doors and it paved the way for the layout with a water-cooled front engine and rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The second generation from 2016 refined the product in every respect and added to the range of engines through progressive hybrid technology.
