In The Divinity that Shapes our Life: Epiphany on the Path of Karma C.B.K. Menon shares the story of his childhood poverty in South India in the 1940s and 50s, and his gradual emergence out of it, with dramatic academic success, a remarkable journey across Europe as a national student leader, and finally settling in Canada. With humour and poetic flair he skillfully conveys the stories and events of his life in India and Canada - from heart-rending to hilarious - all done in a compelling manner that takes the reader on a delightful journey through time and place. A rationalist at heart, he relates dispassionately experiences that border on the paranormal, including a roguish ghost, the mystery of a haunting, and uncanny predictions that materialized. And also, in spite of the struggle of being raised between two households separated by alcoholism and infidelity, he progressively becomes aware of the reality of providence guiding his life through unexpected success. And just when it seems he's finally on a pinnacle, a shocking experience brings him to a powerful epiphany that alters forever his understanding of karma, and takes him beyond binary notions of happiness and unhappiness. In an engaging and sparkling style, Menon tracks the thread of spirituality running through the tapestry of his life, culminating in a profound awareness of the seminal role played by the inner divinity in each individual's life.
