A Survival Guide to Mental Illness: A Road to Recovery

I'm writing this book because of the care and devotion of my family and friends who have supported me to overcome the symptoms of the devastating illness of schizophrenia. This has enabled me to move on to a new part of what I know of as a healthy life. By writing this book, I hope to give the reader a sense of knowledge pertaining to their own mental illness, including the percentages of recovery and the best possible outcome. My goal is to bring a measure of science to the human understanding, show all relevant aspects to these types of illnesses, address a person's symptoms and talk about everything that has benefited (or hindered me) through this long ordeal. One thing I want to emphasize in this book is that everyone is different and unique and needs to be understood at some level so that they may benefit from their environment, treatment and goals. I hope that this information will help them to identify their own needs and develop those personal strengths to achieve whatever they are truly meant to do. Some treatments and medications may work better for some people over others; what's important is that each person find his or her own road to recovery.
