Cooperatives as a Catalyst for Sustainability: Lessons Learned from Asian Models

Countries in Asia have unique models of cooperatives which can be replicated internationally. They utilize collectivization as an economic model with the cooperation of their population. Cooperatives also contribute to the achievement of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They generate revenue for economic growth, support the development of communities and local culture, and help protect the environment. Cooperatives in Asia have been leaders in their approach with its comprehensive and supportive policies. The cooperative movement has played a vital role in the economic development of various countries. Cooperatives from India, Nepal, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, and Bangladesh are also well-known for their proactive approach to sustainability.This book seeks to document the governance, leadership, and sustainable best practices of cooperatives to pave the way for the development of cooperatives internationally, utilizing the sustainable cooperatives in Asia as a model.
