In today's world, work has become more intellectually sophisticated, is collaborative, team-based and requires social skills. Employees are expected to be more technologically competent, be able to meet tight targets, and be more mobile.Because the nature of work is changing so rapidly, organisations to manage their human resources well for a sustainable competitive edge (Schaufeli and Salanova, 2008). Since in the present-day context, job security, and the cradle to grave are not the norm, employers must make sure that their employees are intellectually and emotionally engaged (Woodruffe, 2006). A significant source regarded as a crucial factor in competitive advantage and excellent business performance is EE (Bakker and Leiter, 2010; Shuck and Wollard, 2010, Truss et al., 2013, Anitha J., 2014; Pillay and Singh, 2018).Figure 1.1, given below, depicts the factors contributing to high organisational performance. It can be seen that in addition to the elements of motivation, managing execution, strategic alignment, and overcoming the barriers to growth, an engagement culture has a critical role in guaranteeing organisational effectiveness.
