The Why and How in Education: Honoring Our Past and Imagining Our Future is designed to help pre-service and current educators learn about and reflect upon the field of education, their passion and purpose for teaching, education in light of modern-day challenges, and the ever-evolving roles of teachers in society.

The book is organized into four sections with each representing a key idea. In Idea I, chapters examine the history of education, the teacher's critical role in the development of society, the evolution of the world and its effect on approaches to education, and the idea of teacher as challenge seeker and resolution finder. Idea II helps readers determine their purpose for teaching and recognize their unique contribution to the educational system and teaching profession.

Idea III discusses the governance, structure, finances, and the law in relation to schools. Its chapters explore the nuances behind the determination of school curriculum and how educators can confront the escalating challenges of our times. The final idea introduces the teacher as entrepreneur, underscoring how schools and teachers have become the great fixers of society and how educators can leverage an entrepreneurial spirit to effectively guide their students toward success.

Throughout the text, journal prompts, links to enlightening videos via QR codes, pause and reflect boxes, and end-of-chapter activities and applications deepen and support the overall reading and learning experience.
