In 1889 a man from Green County, who had moved to Chicago, got involved in the Irish independence movement and was indicted as a co-conspirator in the murder of a well-known doctor. He was found guilty in what was called "The Trial of the Century," and he died in Joliet State Prison before his conviction was overturned by the Illinois Supreme Court. He is buried at St. Francis cemetery in the Town of Adams.
