Sustainable Hydrogels: Synthesis, Properties and Applications highlights the development of sustainable hydrogels from various perspectives. As an inspirational goal, sustainable hydrogels with full chemical recyclability built into their materials properties and performance feature a circular materials economy approach towards sustainability. Topics covered in the work include: the development and utilization of abundant and/or inexpensive biorenewable monomers to create hydrogels; the mimicry of variable properties inherent to successful commercial hydrogels; and the creation of bio-based hydrogels that are functional equivalents of fossil fuel-derived hydrogels with respect to their properties, yet are capable of benign degradation over much shorter timescales. The challenges set before the sustainable polymer chemistry is also discussed. The book will provide the reader with a look at the holistic way to combine both the understandings and results via an inter-disciplinary approach to come up with multi-functional to hydrogels.
