Fiona, sixteen, lives a life of privilege, but hates her mother. When she discovers an old newspaper clipping of a woman with her daughter, a little girl who could be Fiona's twin, she sets off on a mission to find her true family. Her boyfriend Patrick, a charming fraudster, tracks down her sister, Maddy, and Fiona drops everything and goes to Rome to find her. Maddy, meanwhile, is spooked by the girl with her face, who seems to be stalking her and to want to claim Maddy's her life for her own. Maddy wants nothing to do with this unsettlingly familiar stranger. She has problems of her own to deal with: her mother's an alcoholic and they're always broke. Fiona and Maddy are caught in a push and pull, between love and hate, fascination and repulsion - until Patrick returns, with plans of his own, and the twins have to decide who they love, who they need and who to protect.
