A Phenomenological Exploration Of Patanjala Yog

This thesis mainly aims at the phenomenological exposition of the Yoga

Philosophy by Mahariṣi Pāta鎣ali which he used to elaborate the true nature of purūṣa

and prakriti separately and in order to find out the possibilities of liberation of purūṣa

which he entitled Kaivalya. During this work we came to know that before presenting

the solutions of all human problems Mahariṣi Pāta鎣ali starts with the investigation of

the true nature and seeds of human problems. This true nature and seeds are there in

the sāṁkhya philosophy and that was the key point where the phenomenological

exposition of yoga philosophy could be short out. The thesis is structured in such a

way that we progress step by step starting from the introductory support of Yoga

Philosophy, through the possible sources of phenomenological background and to the

goal that what are the possibilities and impossibilities to expose the true nature and

correct techniques of Yoga Practices.

Philosophical investigations are a kind of individual investigations into the

arguments which have been given already. We know that philosophy has no objects of

experiments therefore we have our focus only on the arguments which are tried to be

concluded according to the logic. But we know that every philosophical theory is

influenced by its own nature and attributes of the related philosopher therefore in the

beginning of the work we have presented a sketch of Yogasūtra and its fundamentals.
