商品簡介
The Butler Did It is a crime novel by Sean Joseph. A British Prime Minister once said, "If you obey the law and pay your taxes, you can do anything you want to."
Johnny Butler picked the part of his message he liked best-the one about doing anything he liked to. Even his mother thought him "the biggest fiddler" she'd ever met, and Johnny was chuffed. He thought that the best compliment he'd ever got. People are like books; some deceive you with their cover while others surprise you with their content-Johnny ticked both boxes, but do bad choices make the best stories? You decide- this novel and its main protagonist will take you on an intriguing journey and make you question your own decisions.
The central character Johnny Butler has been created to live the role of a young man born in North London in 1967, who lived through certain events, starting with the gateway crime of shoplifting and leading to a life of crime that funded his
various addictions. Johnny Butler was an unremarkable-looking criminal and made the most of the life he
chose to lead. There have been many highs and lows in his life. One of his therapists
described his life as similar to the Godfather. One public official described him as Al Capone
with the gift of the gab. The story covers prostitution, drug importation and dealing as well as
violent crime, contract killing, tobacco smuggling, and way too many financial crimes to list.
He managed to evade conviction until he was 42 years old and then his old life began to catch
up with him. He faced trial for organised crime in 2010. Then, as a direct result of that event,
he managed to turn his life around and found the 12-step program in various fellowships,
which helped him look at his life honestly and see how dark it had become. Since then, he has
led a different type of life.
Although he has always lived in the fast lane and sailed close to the wind, he has no
regrets and believes he has at least lived a life which, although it had to end, if he hadn't
lived, he could never have the life he has today - which is so different, has a purpose and is
very rewarding. Boring is not a word that would describe this character's life.
The author realised that Johnny's behaviour needed to be worth writing about and the
book needed to be written as something worth reading. In both respects, you will probably
never have read a book like this in your lifetime. After all, the truth is often stranger than fiction.
