Best friends JoJo, Bee, Tina, and Mei all live together in a Manhattan high-rise. These twenty-somethings constantly fend off their tiger moms, who are obsessed with managing their daughters' lives and getting them married, lest they become
"leftovers", their euphemism for spinsters.
So, while their moms relentlessly pursue eligible bachelors and suitable careers for their daughters, the girls embrace their perpetual singleness, forming "The Leftovers Club" to support each other.
All is well in the girls' Manhattan penthouse-until Jojo, a fledgling screenwriter and daughter of wealthy Manhattan hoteliers, unexpectedly falls for Jim, an event planner for comic book and science fiction conventions. On hearing the news, Jojo's parents go ballistic-Jim's lack of pedigree has them threatening to cut her off: Their own family can trace their Chinese roots to the Ming Dynasty.
While Jojo had anticipated fallout from her parents, she assumed her fellow Leftovers would support her. But it's just the opposite: None of her friends can stand Jim; in fact, they loathe him! It turns out each member of the Leftovers Club-Bee, Mei, and Tina-secretly knows Jim from their past.
With jealousy and turmoil threatening to tear apart their friendships, Jojo must figure out a way to hold together the Leftovers, win over her parents, and decide if Jim, the man of her dreams, is worth keeping
