Jon嫳 is not his real name. He is an obscure and enigmatic man. And he's missing a leg. This may be an insignificant detail, but it will turn out to be important. Just like Jon嫳's obsession with his new neighbor. The past is a closely guarded mystery Jon嫳 prefer to keep safely tucked away in the shadows of memory. But he can't. Jon嫳 is the type of person who never forgets or forgives. "The apartment he rented is on the third floor, and he can't stop thinking that every time he goes out, he will have to go up and down the stairs on his crutches, hopping ridiculously on his single leg and balancing on every step. He can't resist counting the stairs. There are nineteen from the doorway to the first-floor landing, where he is now. He multiplies that number by three in his head and calculates that every trip in or out of his new home will mean fifty-seven hops. He accepts this as a type of sacrifice, as a penitence. "Everything has a price," he thinks. And he's willing to pay it, he's willing to do it if it means attaining his goal.
