Of Mice and Michelangelo

This is the story of the talented young mouse named Giuseppi Moustriani who makes his way to Florence during the early blush of the Renaissance. Once in Florence the story turns to a true incident in the life of the young Michelangelo. Giuseppi happens upon Michelangelo with his friend Lorenzo Guffo, a barn owl who almost eats him but instead flies him to the top of the Dumo where they see Michelangelo and other boys gathered around the slab of marble that would later become the David. Under the tutelage of Bertoldo di Giovanni, in the gardens of the Medici Palace, Michelangelo copies a Roman bust of a faun, adding a rakish grin following drawings made by Giuseppi, though the future master never knows where his inspiration comes from. The final bust impresses Lorenzo Medici himself and so begins the amazing career of one of our truly great artists of history.
