Reading about the historical phases and the conquests that followed one another, in a historical-geographical itinerary, explains the natural succession of peoples and cultures that have forged it with peculiar characteristics, outlining an ethnopolitical geography and a history of the environment and man-made landscapes that have given rise to the current panorama where it is now difficult to distinguish the work of nature from human transformations.
