A Fish Tale

Jonah 1 begins with the Lord commanding Jonah to go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against its wickedness. Instead of obeying, Jonah boards a ship bound for Tarshish, trying to flee from the presence of God. But the Lord sends a mighty storm upon the sea, and the sailors, fearing for their lives, cast lots to discover who has brought this trouble. The lot falls on Jonah, who admits he is running from the Lord. Jonah tells the sailors to throw him into the sea to calm the storm. Reluctantly, they do, and immediately the sea becomes still. The sailors offer sacrifices and vows to the Lord in awe of His power. Meanwhile, God prepares a great fish to swallow Jonah, and he remains in its belly for three days and three nights.
