Two young orphans, from opposite ends of the world, are cast into the midst of the Mexican-American War. Will, an Irish immigrant soldier fighting for the U.S., defects to the Mexican Army. He is driven by his Catholic faith (a faith despised and forbidden by the U.S. Army) and solidarity with the Mexican cause, a nation fighting to retain sovereignty over its borders, not unlike the plight of his Irish homeland, forcibly conquered by the British. Nina, a Mexican orphan living on the streets, desperate and alone, is recruited by the Mother Superior to join the local Convent and begin the path towards becoming a Nun. She agrees, desperate to still the darkness dwelling deep within her. Against all odds, the two young orphans find love, compelled by forces beyond their control and a destiny which spans eons of time. Tragedy ends Nina's life in the waters of the Rio Grande; over time, her soul transforms into something evil, becoming the ghost of La Llorona. After a lifetime of mourning, Will ultimately finds the courage to confront her ghost, hoping to bring an end to the haunting of La Llorona. But can love overcome the decades of evil perpetuated by the soul of one who has turned to malevolence? Will their love for one another, spanning across the centuries of time, find its ultimate conclusion and finally free her from the grip of the diabolical? And can that love save her and set both of their souls on the path to redemption?
