"VASTANE" is the Estonian word for 'opponent' or 'antagonist'. This collection of work speaks frankly to the poet's approach to his personal antagonists including organized religion, love and family, grief and loss, mortality, false patriotism, politics, and the lies we tell ourselves in order to survive each day. These opponents are not purely hated but are the friction against which life often drags ever forward.
These are deeply personal, multi-layered, often belligerent, and only occassionally bombastic. Though not always suited for mixed company, they flow best when read aloud.
