ABOUT THE BOOK
"Israel and the rest of them" is a book written with a focus on the events in the Middle East as they affect the Jews and Israel as a nation-state in the international system. It tries to highlight the experience of the children of Israel from an individual to a family and to a nation. The book tries to reflect the concern and even the involvement of God in issues affecting the people of Israel as covenant-keeping God, given His covenant with Abraham, the progenitor of the Israelites. For instance, the book highlights what it refers to as the existential wars that Israel had to fight against formidable enemies and came out victorious in all of them, even at times when it would appear as if all hopes had been lost. It also reveals that God is still working miracles today as in the days of the Bible. For instance, it reveals how God, in precarious situation, hid some Israeli soldiers from their pursuing enemies. In an open desert, when the Israeli soldiers had lost every hope of survival, God shielded them from the view of their pursuing enemies with a "fog canopy". In the book, some Christians are likely to be reading for the first time about the Maccabees and some other personalities who emerged during the 400 silent years between the last book of the Old Testament Bible and the first book of the New Testament.
