The Sound of Love: A Short Story

Arthur "Art" Beaumont, a retired radio announcer with a penchant for perfectly pressed slacks and the smooth sounds of jazz, considered his life in the Clearwater Estates retirement community a well-orchestrated symphony of routine and refinement. His days were filled with NPR, meticulously organized sock drawers, and the comforting predictability of early bird specials. That is, until Agnes "Aggie" McIntyre, a whirlwind of tie-dye, booming classic rock, and an irrepressible zest for life, burst into his meticulously curated world like a cymbal crash at a string quartet concert. Their initial encounters were a comical clash of cultures, with Art politely tolerating Aggie's "electric caterwauling" and Aggie finding Art's sophisticated tastes about as exciting as elevator music.
