Casper "Jack" Alagna was born in 1921. It was three years after the end of World War One and it was the beginning of the roaring twenties. Prohibition had begun about a year earlier. By the time Casper was 10 years old, his mother had passed away, the great depression had begun, and the scents of World War II were blowing in the wind across the Atlantic Ocean. Before he turned twenty-years old, Casper would be in the Army reluctantly looking ahead to a bloody war that ended up taking the lives of 60 million people world-wide. He would become part of Patton's famous Third Army, in the 5th Division, 10th Infantry Regiment, Hq Company in charge of Communications. As a Staff Sergeant he would learn the Morse Code and operate radios throughout Normandy and France during battle.
Luckily for me, he survived and came back to the U.S. to marry my mom and raise me, my three brothers, Danny, Jimmy, and Johnny, and my sister, Christina. These stories are some of the things I know and remember about him.
