Finding it an increasingly uncomfortable place to be, it was past time to get off the fence. For David Belzer, worldly pursuits had always taken priority-earning good grades in college and graduate school, getting ahead in his job, trying to be a responsible husband and parent. But now Belzer was approaching his 60th birthday and his Christian commitment was sorely lacking. Not that he was unaware of the basic tenets of Christianity; he had been raised in the church, graduated from a Christian college, and attended church on most Sunday mornings.
And just recently, the pastor at his church issued a call for congregants to write a short statement of faith. What could he write that reflected any deeply held beliefs, ones that he could articulate and defend in a cogent manner? It required an answer to the fundamental question: Is Christianity really true? And so, the attempt to answer that question for himself set in motion a long period of intense study-reading books and internet articles, listening to online lectures and debates, and becoming a more active participant at his church.
To help clarify his thinking on these matters during his study, Belzer began to write ... and write some more. Informal articles across a spectrum of topics associated with the Bible and Christianity. This collection of 40 of those articles perhaps may help others who find themselves in the same place as Belzer did a decade and half ago.
