This book is dedicated to my Interventional Radiology Technologists colleagues.
The concept of PICC highlights the crucial contributions of interventional radiology technologists in enhancing the practice. By integrating the venous access expertise of interventional radiologists with the bedside insertion skills of nursing professionals, IR technologists play a crucial role in the PICC insertion service by using bother insertion methods (ECG and fluoroscopy-guided). Their involvement not only strengthens the procedure itself but also brings a valuable technical perspective that enhances the overall knowledge and effectiveness of PICC services in the field.
The distinctive approach adopted by IR technologists combines electrocardiography with fluoroscopy-guided techniques, creating a cohesive set of insertion steps that can be readily imparted to other technologists and healthcare professionals. Furthermore, the utilization of freehand ultrasound guidance provides IR technologists with essential tools for performing punctures. Additionally, the integration of echocardiography technology necessitates a novel perspective; the development of a navigation system that simulates chest fluoroscopy has the potential to supplant traditional chest X-rays as the confirmation modality for PICC placements in the future.
