GREEN OF ALL HEADS grows out of language started, then stopped, in the wake of new loss and a changing psychic shape. It is porous with dreams and fears and children. Newly shifted from New York City to her birthplace of California, Aracelis Girmay has allowed her poetic vision to lead her into the soil of these new shapes, to turn her gaze toward resuscitations of the delicate and the often overlooked. Following language, Giramay's project on GREEN OF ALL HEADS is to prolong life by learning what she can from what is, though near, nameless, and beyond her comprehension.
Her individual poems are brilliant vials of perception. Once collected, they invent a frequency that crackles with life, loss, family, and the voices of the African and Puerto Rican diaspora through which she emerged.
