In the early 1980s, a young fiddler by the name of Natalie MacMaster emerged from Troy, Inverness County, a small, tightly knit community on the island of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Natalie's distinctive lilt and drive gained popularity, and soon, her energetic performances propelled her to the world stage. Natalie has collaborated with an impressive list of legendary entertainers, including The Chieftains, Faith Hill, Carlos Santana, Don Henley, Rhiannon Giddens, Alison Krauss, Michael McDonald and Yo-Yo Ma, to name a few. She has spent decades touring and performing at many of the prestigious concert halls, festivals and events across the globe. Natalie has accumulated an impressive list of awards: Junos, East Coast Music Awards, a Grammy nomination, gold records, and honorary doctorates, to mention a few. She has also received the Order of Canada, the Order of Nova Scotia, the King Charles III Coronation Medal, and most recently, she was inducted into the Canadian Fiddle Hall of Honour. Of all her success and accolades, however, Natalie counts her family as her most outstanding achievement. She and her husband, Donnell Leahy, the lead fiddler from the highly acclaimed band Leahy, have seven children, all of whom play the fiddle, among other instruments.
