Criminal Conduct and Substance Abuse Treatment - The Provider′s Guide: Strategies for Self-Improvement and Change; Pathways to Responsible Livin

Criminal Conduct and Substance Abuse Treatment (CCSAT) is a cognitive-behavioral treatment curriculum for clients suffering from co-occurring issues of substance abuse and criminality. This is the only treatment curriculum to focus specifically on this population and the intersection substance abuse and criminal behavior. It is a 52 week program aimed at offenders in prisons, outpatient treatment, and residential treatment programs. The program is evidence based to have effective treatment outcomes when the entire program is delivered as prescribed.

CCSAT is based on Ken Wanberg and Harvey Milkman′s change program titled SIC, Self Improvement and Change. It focuses on helping the individual overcome their addiction and distorted thinking patterns by helping them change their thinking and their behaviors (toward others, themselves and their community). It provides tools for clients in group and individual therapy.

The Provider′s Guide is intended for the counselor or mental health professional delivering or overseeing treatment for the offender/substance abuse client. It contains a wealth of research on the criminality, relapse prevention, and substance abuse treatment. It also is a guide for the provider to deliver treatment in group or individual format for each session of the curriculum. The Provider′s Guide is an essential companion to delivering the curriculum effectively.

While the revision plan is still underway, we will update the research and add new material as needed since its current publication. We will also try to make the language a bit more accessible; however, the workbook is where there is a greater issue as counselors/providers are more familiar with common treatment terminology.
