In The American Prairie Story, Sean Gerrity asks us to radically reimagine the future of conservation--and the role each of us can play in making a wilder, more sustainable world.
In 2001, a small team of ordinary citizens left their secure jobs to transform a century-old dream into reality: to create a wildlife reserve larger than nearly all of America's national parks. To succeed, they would have to become experts at defying conventional wisdom, win over skeptical Montana neighbors, and restore vast areas of temperate grasslands for returning bison, wolves, groundhogs, and native pollinators. With humor and humility, founding CEO Sean Gerrity immerses readers in the challenges, triumphs, and unwavering commitment that brought American Prairie to life. Now, Gerrity challenges us to imagine conservation at the scale of the landscape itself and reveals what it take to make real, lasting change.
The American Prairie Story calls us to move beyond "saving what's left" of nature to making
new wild spaces--for animals, for the planet, for the future, and for ourselves.
