Screen addiction and functional illiteracy-two quiet epidemics among Filipino youth-form the core of Erika Balete and the Evil Librarian, a story inspired by the Philippine Statistics Authority's April 30, 2025 report, revealing that 18.9 million Filipinos aged 10 to 64 are classified as functionally illiterate. While they can read, write, and compute, many struggle with one crucial skill: comprehension. This alarming reality sparked the creative minds of the 2nd year BS Multimedia Arts students of STI College Mu隳z-EDSA, giving life to a fantastical campus chronicle that blends magic, mental health, and young romance.Follow Erika Balete, a Grade 12 student with a hidden power buried beneath her wild, untamed hair. Armed with a secret she barely understands, Erika must confront Mr. ELMS, a sinister librarian who feeds on the minds of students addicted to their screens and lost in their own vanity. As unread books gather dust and comprehension fades, one girl's messy hair and pure heart may hold the key to saving them all. Despite her doubts, fears, and a quietly breaking heart over her schoolmate Phillip, Erika's love for her father and her courage to stand alone push her toward an unchosen destiny. What if the power to change everything lies within someone who feels like they're not enough?Dive into a story that reflects a generation's struggle-and their strength.
