Written in the Stars is a fresh and theologically rich approach to Advent and one that reaches beyond tradition to invite readers into a deeper exploration of Scripture, prophecy, and the majesty of the incarnation. Unlike typical seasonal devotionals that begin and end with the nativity, this 25-day journey draws from ancient biblical patterns and cosmic imagery to uncover how the story of Christ's coming is written into the very fabric of Scripture.
Structured around a biblical literary form called a chiasm, this devotional places the reading of the birth of Jesus at its center--on December 13th--and surrounds it with mirrored reflections of theological themes leading up to and flowing from that pivotal moment. Each day leads readers from the opening lines of Genesis to the prophetic visions of Daniel, from the typology of Moses to the royal promises given to David. Along the way, readers encounter deep yet accessible teachings on God's visible glory, divine presence, the concept of "two powers" in heaven, and the long-anticipated identity of the Messiah.
Drawing on the research of scholars such as the late Dr. Michael Heiser, Written in the Stars presents complex theological truths in a way that is digestible for lay readers while still engaging for seasoned Bible students. Each entry includes scriptural insights, background context, and a reflective question to guide personal or group meditation. The book also explores lesser-known traditions surrounding the Messiah (such as the expectation of a "Messiah ben Joseph") and integrates insights from Second Temple literature, prophetic symbolism, and the Jewish liturgical calendar.
But this is more than just a daily devotional. It is an invitation to think deeply, to question faithfully, and to marvel at the way God's story unfolds across time. Designed to help prepare hearts for the celebration of Christ's first coming, Written in the Stars also encourages readers to long for his return with greater clarity and hope.
Whether you're new to Advent or looking for a study that goes far beyond the surface, Written in the Stars will lead you not only to Bethlehem, but to Eden, Sinai, and beyond--into a lifelong journey of knowing the God who chose to dwell with us.
