Image Analysis and Pattern Recognition

This book presents studies carried out in the fields of image analysis and pattern recognition. They focus on the applications of image analysis and the introduction of hierarchical multidimensional modeling techniques. These activities began in the field of industrial imagery, then moved on to satellite imagery and cartography, and continued with facial recognition. The first chapter looks at early work in the field of industrial applications of pattern recognition. The second chapter focuses on the implementation of these techniques in satellite imagery, and on the development of a satellite data cataloguing system for use in digital geography. The third chapter is devoted to facial recognition based on the analysis of flat images and the recognition of partially hidden shapes. The appendix contains algorithms more specific to image analysis based on two complementary approaches: the frontier approach for industrial applications and the regional approach for satellite image analysis.
