Ten-year-old Chase is the descendant of an ancient family entrusted with recording a forgotten, impossible world. Gifted with the ability to teleport into a parallel universe shaped by his ancestors' collective memory, Chase is not alone-he's joined by Oliver, another Map Maker.

Their journey takes them through haunting encounters: the last giant on Earth, the land-devouring monster Tao Tie, the half-tiger-half-horse beast called Bo, dragon lord Gengchen, mountain gods and river lords, the sadness-absorbing pet Feifei, the descendent of the Fox with Nine Tails, and countless other mysterious creatures.
