Vietnam Air War

The air war over Vietnam during the early 1960s to 1975 would see fierce battles between Soviet-made North Vietnamese jets and the fighters of the USAF and US Navy. However American, South Vietnamese and Australian forces would also see mounting losses resulting from ground-based anti-aircraft fire as the war progressed.

While the North operated MiG-17s, MiG-21s and latterly Chinese-made MiG-19s, the Americans flew a wide variety of combat aircraft from fighters to close-support, bomber and reconnaissance types. These included the famous F-4 Phantom II, F-8 Crusaders, A-4 Skyhawks, F-105 Thunderchiefs, F-100 Super Sabres, A-6 Intruders, A-1 Skyraiders, A-7 Corsairs, F-5 Freedom Fighters, F-104 Starfighters, F-102 Delta Daggers, F-111 Aardvarks, RF-101 Voodoos, OV-10 Broncos, B-52 Stratofortresses, B-57 Canberras, A-37 Dragonflys and many more.
