In a world that seems crazier by the minute, where social and political turmoil, tense police relations, lingering pandemic anxiety, war, terrorism, and active shootings have become daily headlines, where do we find a core of sanity? Better, where can we find an effective method for dealing with irrationality, the source of most of that craziness, whether in others or in ourselves? Traditional comforts--morality, religion, superstition, and their modern counterparts in psychology and philosophy--fall short in an increasingly multi-cultural environment of clashing beliefs, values, and opinions. Even higher education, political idealism, and social reform, once thought to be the solution to all civilization's problems, have let us down. There
is something better, something known to work, something that can be taught and learned. The classical Greeks had the germ of the idea, so did the intellects of the Enlightenment, though at the time no one possessed the scientific knowledge to develop that idea into a usable system. Today we finally have enough real, scientific understanding to provide a clear path to reaching this highest potential, the pinnacle of nature: rational thought and rational conduct.Yet it's rare, in a climate of overspecialization, to find the kind of broad synthesis, the drawing together of multiple disciplines, needed to make sense of it all. We're left with a huge void that needs to be filled.
The Principles of Rational Thought and Rational Conduct; A Software Upgrade for Your Mind offers a major step toward that goal.If you're interested in how we think--or how
to think--if you've ever wondered why people behave the way they do, or want to improve your own thinking as well as your interaction with others and with the physical world around you in general, this book is for you. Yet you won't want to slog through an unwieldy tome loaded with overly-academic language and specialist jargon. You would welcome an easy-to-grasp distillation of real, practical knowledge from many fields of research, written in plain English, a straightforward, no-frills, point-by-point handbook of principles you can apply to your own life.Welcome to your mind upgrade.
