دمعة وابتسامة: بحسب الطبع

During our journey in "Khalil Gibran" research, while browsing some websites dedicated to publishing old books, we came across a copy of the first edition of the book "Tears and Laughter" published in 1914 by the Atlantic Press in New York. On its inner cover, there is an English translation of the title, the author's name, the publisher's name, and a dedication to Mary Elizabeth Haskell, August 1914, in the handwriting of Khalil Gibran. It appears to us on the same website that this copy is part of the archives of the University of North Carolina Library. When we compared this version with the complete collections specifically, we noticed some modifications that occurred to many of the words and phrases in the text of the (Atlantic, 1914) edition, either due to printing errors, grammatical oversights in Arabic, or the editor's preference for one term over another. We noticed these changes and modifications in two previous studies we conducted in two books by Khalil Gibran, namely: The Music and The Broken Wings. From here, we decided to conduct a scientific investigation of the text of "Tears and Laughter" according to the (Atlantic, 1914) edition, as we did with the previous two books. With the re-publication of the book, highlighting the changes and comparing it with the texts of the articles from the Al-Mohajer newspaper. We also republished twenty-one of Gibran's articles from the Al-Mohajer newspaper, which were not included in his book "Tears and Laughter" or in the complete collection of Arabic Writings.

خلال مسيرتنا المتواضعة في الأبحاث "الجبرانية"، وفي أثناء تصفُّحنا لبعض المواقع الإلكترونيَّة التي تُعنى بنشر الكتب القديمة، وقع نظرنا على نسخةٍ من الطبعة الأولى لكتاب دمعة وابتسامة الصادر سنة 1914م، في مطبعة الأتلنتيك في نيويورك. على غلافها الداخلي ترجمة باللغة الإنجليزيَّة للعنوان، واسم المؤلِّف، واسم المطبعة، وإهداء إلى ماري إليزابيت هاسكل، آب 1914، بخطِّ يد جبران خليل جبران. يظهر لنا في الموقع الإلكتروني نفسه أنَّ هذه النسخة هي من محفوظات مكتبة جامعة نورث كارولينا. عند مقارنتنا لهذه النسخة، مع المجموعات الكاملة تحديدًا، لاحظنا بعض التعديلات التي طرأت على العديد من الألفاظ والكلمات الموجودة في نصِّ طبعة (الأتلنتيك، 1914)، إمَّا لأنَّها أخطاء مطبعيَّة، أو هفوات في قواعد اللغة العربيَّة، أو استنسابٌ للفظٍ من دون آخر من قبل المصحِّح. هž
