The New Glue: How Politics is Replacing Religion-and What Comes Next for Humanity
For millennia, religion provided the invisible architecture that held human societies together. Through shared myths, rituals, and sacred order, it unified scattered tribes into civilizations, giving moral meaning to power and hope to suffering. But as scientific inquiry expanded and political ideologies rose, humanity's ancient center dissolved. Faith was dethroned by knowledge, mystery by method, and divine law by human reason.
The New Glue: How Politics Is Replacing Religion-and What Comes Next for Humanity traces that five-thousand-year journey of meaning: from the mythic and theological age through the Enlightenment, the rise of ideology, the birth of the nation-state, and the digital transformation of modern consciousness. The book argues that while the objects of devotion have changed-from gods to governments to data-the underlying human hunger for coherence, belonging, and purpose has never disappeared. Each epoch merely reinvented the sacred in secular form.
Through fifteen deeply researched chapters, Rex Nihilo reveals how religion evolved into philosophy, how science became the new theology of progress, and how politics and technology turned into substitute faiths. In our own century, we have entered an era of "digital liturgies" and "algorithmic beliefs," where social media, markets, and algorithms shape our collective values more powerfully than ancient temples ever could.
Yet this transformation is not simply decline-it is metamorphosis. Humanity, Nihilo suggests, stands at the threshold of a new synthesis. The next glue capable of binding civilization will not be another ideology, nation, or machine, but consciousness itself: a planetary awareness that recognizes all forms of life and intelligence as part of one living network of meaning.
From the first sparks of myth to the modern search for identity,
The New Glue is both diagnosis and prophecy-a sweeping narrative that reframes civilization as an evolving conversation about belonging, truth, and hope. It closes with a secular benediction that captures the heart of its message:
To be is to relate, and to relate is to mean. This is the story of how humanity lost its center-and how, by rediscovering awareness itself, it might finally find its future.
