Environmental Considerations in Iron Ore Mining Tailings Dams

Mining is one of the basic sectors of the country's economy, contributing decisively to the well-being and improvement of the quality of life of present and future generations. It is fundamental to the development of an equitable society, provided that it is operated with social responsibility, always adhering to the principles of sustainable development. Grease ether amines are widely used in iron ore flotation and, after use, are disposed of in tailings dams. Ether amines are expensive, and their disposal in the environment can have a major environmental impact. Studies have therefore been conducted to remove and quantify these substances from the waste generated. The possible recycling of ether amines present in effluents and flotation residues could reduce the environmental impact and lower the costs of this important input.
