Integration of NASF into PHC

NASF were created to strengthen the effectiveness and coverage of Brazilian PHC. Their guidelines are based on matrix support, offering educational and assistance support to the ESF. The integration of NASF into PHC is recent, and there is no consensus on criteria for their monitoring and evaluation. This study sought to contribute to the definition of an evaluation model for the integration of NASF into PHC. A logical model was constructed based on documents, validated with PHC professionals in Florian鏕olis, and analyzed in light of the scientific literature on the integration of new professionals into PHC. The integration of NASF into PHC should consider five components: organization and management of NASF; strengthening of care integration; specialized support, encompassing the original dimensions of matrix support; support for intersectoral integration; and management of shared care. The logical model demonstrated good internal validity and can serve as a reference for improvements in the organization and monitoring of NASF. Its use in evaluative studies should take into account recent advances in NASF and different local contexts.
